About Us - Carclew, South Australia

Carclew Youth Arts

Carclew Youth Arts covers the broad spectrum of youth arts and creates opportunities for children and young people from many kinds of backgrounds, from urban centres and sometimes isolated areas of South Australia, to discover and explore their creativity and to develop a fuller awareness and appreciation of themselves, the arts and their society.

Carclew Youth Arts is a dynamic breeding ground for the ideas, energy and enthusiasm of South Australia's young artists aged 5-26 years. Each year, over 18,000 children and young people participate in projects designed and led by over 600 professional artists.

A hybrid of arts activities, Carclew offers programs in traditional art forms mixed with original and alternative ideas, which reflect the new directions of today's young artists.

With regional projects, workshop programs, major arts events, performance opportunities and arts mentorships, Carclew Youth Arts is on the cutting edge of youth arts activity.

Carclew is the program arm of the South Australian Youth Arts Board, supported by the Government of South Australia through Arts SA and other significant funding bodies and corporate sponsors.

CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE ARE OUR GREATEST RESOURCE

Creativity is innate within all of us – we all have the ability to imagine, play and explore.

When we invest ourselves in this creative process, we learn, grow and create something new to contribute to the world. Children and Young People from all walks of life should be encouraged to explore their creativity and be provided with support to express their discoveries in whatever form they choose.

As a multi-arts organisation Carclew’s role is to foster this creativity and to assist, support and promote the work of children and young artists.

Carclew’s statewide arts program is built upon three key priority areas; Arts and Education, Industry Development and Community Partnerships, with a particular focus on Indigenous Arts and Culture.  These priorities are delivered through the eight program areas, outlined on this website.  With more than thirty years of leadership in youth arts Carclew’s work is vast, comprehensive and essential.

It is a great joy, challenge and an honor to head up this organisation.  I believe deeply in the work that we do and know that Carclew, through the work of it’s dedicated team, will continue to brighten and enrich the lives of children and young people living in South Australia.

We’re creating the future...will you be there?
