DanceAde SuhartoAde Suharto was the 2005 recipient of the Dame Ruby Litchfield Scholarship (Performing Arts). The scholarship enabled Ade to undertake a 5 month attachment with Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and Cloud Gate 2 of Taiwan, under the directorship of contemporary choreographers Mr. Lin Hwai-Min and Ms. Lo Man Fei. Mr Lin Hwai-Min is recognised internationally as the leading Asian contemporary choreographer and is the Founder and Artistic Director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. Mr Lin often draws from traditional Asian culture for inspiration and material to create works with innovative forms and contemporary relevance. Cloud Gate 2 is led by Ms Lo Man-Fei and was founded to foster young choreographers and to tour communities in Taiwan. Between the two companies, a combination of tai chi exercise, ballet, modern dance, martial arts and meditation are practices daily to complement rehearsal processes.Ade has Javanese heritage and is a first class honors dance graduate from Uni of Adelaide, Ade states “ Over the last six years, I have been strongly working to draw together different dance techniques to create a personal style and movement vocabulary, specifically those of several traditional Asian forms and Western contemporary dance. I have chosen Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan because it is the leading exponent of contemporary Asian Dance internationally. The study of Cloud Gate’s movement techniques, compositional methods and repertoire offers me an outstanding opportunity to further my skills as a dancer and choreographer” Ade created her first solo work Rumah/home in 2003, commissioned by the 2003 Asian Music & Dance Festival and was presented at the Sydney Opera House Studio. Based on the success of this work, Ade has been commissioned to present a 50 – minute program at the 2005 Festival. Ade also teaches dance in the South Australian Community. | ||
