Aphids Residency and Mentoring Scheme

Artist residency at Bains::Connective, Brussels
1 April to 8 June 2008 (start date negotiable)
 
This is a unique and inspiring opportunity for an Australian young or emerging artist working in music and/or cross artform practice.

Bains::Connective is a socio-artistic laboratory working across most artforms, situated in a former public baths complex in Brussels. www.bains.be
 
Local-social-political
This residency opportunity is part of a structured series of residencies hosted and coordinated by Bains::Connective. The theme for this residency is concerned with the local-social-political context of a place. There will be several artists from all over the world participating in the residency.
 
Dates
The full residency period runs from 1 April to 8 June 2008, however the start date is flexible depending on the availability and circumstances of the successful applicant.
 
Kunstenfestivaldesarts
The residency period also takes place during Brussel’s remarkable annual multi-artform festival, the Kunstenfestivaldesarts. The artists in residence will have the opportunity to participate in the festival, and see lots of shows too. www.kunstenfestivaldesarts.be
 
The deal
The residency structure, studio space and accommodation are provided by Bains::Connective.
A travel grant of $3,500 towards airfare and living expenses is provided by Aphids.

Aphids has been creating cross artform collaborations since 1994, and has a long standing relationships with Bains::Connective. In 2007, Aphids sent artist Dario Vacirca to undertake a similar residency at Bains::Conncetive. You can read his blog at welltheatre.blogspot.com

What to send in

Applications by email only to residencies@aphids.net and should include:
1.    Brief statement about why you want to undertake this residency and how it would further your artistic practice;
2.    Brief biography (including your age), focusing on your work in music and/or cross artform practice;
3.    Examples of your work (text, images, music and/or video available online or as an attachment to your email).

Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be:
·    An Australian artist
·    Working in music or cross artform practice
·    Young (under 30) or emerging (in the first 5 years of your professional artistic practice)
·    Available to undertake the residency in Brussels for all or most of the period from April 1 to June 8, 2008.

 
Assessment process

Applications will be assessed by a panel of representatives from Aphids, Bains::Connective and an independent arts expert. Applicants may be asked to come in for an interview as part of the assessment process.

The successful applicant will be announced as soon as possible after the closing date.
