Animation Unplugged

Over four Saturdays participants will join experienced members of the
Adelaide digital animation industry for a series of fun seminars to learn
about the basics of animation and get some tips on breaking into the
industry.
Each week’s seminar will be presented by a different animation company (The
People’s Republic of Animation, Vishus Productions, Monkeystack and Rising
Sun Pictures ) and will include a presentation showcasing their work,
discussing their process and the tools of their trade, the company’s focus
and background, and each presenter will also share their own personal career
journey and tips for participants.
 
In addition, each week presenters will demystify other aspects of animation:
Week 1 (10 May) – James Calvert, The People’s Republic of Animation

James will discuss idea generation, finding your inspiration, picking your
style and the fundamentals of animated filmmaking, as well as show some
films that have influenced him.
Week 2 (17 May) – Luke Jurevicius, Vishus Productions

Luke will present the Animation Director’s perspective, as well as
storyboarding, character design, other essential elements of pre production
and sound design.
Week 3 (24 May) – Shane Bevin, Monkeystack www.monkeystack.com.au

Shane will take participants through the production and post-production
processes, choosing the right software, animation for cross platform
distribution and a look at 3D animation in detail.
Week 4 (31 May) – Tim Kings-Lynne, Tony Thorne & Benjamin Rayner, Rising Sun
Pictures www.rsp.com.au
Tim, Tony and Benjamin will discuss feature film visual effects and the
process of animation for visual effects. They will also share some films
that inspire them.
 
These seminars are aimed at entry level and emerging practitioners in the
animation field and there will be plenty of time in each session for
questions from participants.
 
The Animation Unplugged series of seminars is presented by the Media
Resource Centre and is sponsored by the South Australian Film Corporation.
