Mt Gambier East Primary SchoolPROJECT COORDINATOR: Rob ShepherdARTIST: Ivo Tadic PROJECT: ‘Sculpture Installation’ – a sculpture project. Aim: • To create a sculpture using limestone which represents the school motto 'Together We Learn' while working as a team to design and create the sculpture. A committee was set up with Ivo, staff and student representatives to create the concept. Classes came up with design ideas which were then modified by Ivo. Three totems were created with students involved in each step from preparing the area to cutting limestone and shaping it. the sculpture is at the front of the school on a cement slab. Outcomes: The students developed skills in sculpting with limestone as well as seeing their own concepts come to life. They worked well as a team and showed pride in their achievement. A special page was created in the school magazine focusing on 'The Arts'. Ivo was very supportive of the students and behaviour problems dropped significantly during the term of the project. As the school didn't get to the end stage of the project (even with Ivo putting in much of his own time) the local Council provided extra funds, through the 'Youth At Risk' program, to complete the etching. 50-65 students were involved in this highly rewarding project. | ||
