The school’s motto is “Building on Success”.
PROJECT COORDINATOR: Nick Garrood
ARTIST: Tony Hannon (KneeHIGH Puppets)
PROJECT: ‘Outback in the Park’ – a puppetry performance project.
Aims:
• To enable participants to broaden their knowledge in a non-confronting manner.
• To develop creative skills and share them with the wider community during ‘Outback in the Park’ celebrations.
The participants made giant puppets, banners and five pictures over an 8-day period culminating in a parade through Hawker to begin O.I.T.P. The artist was inspirational. He was able to communicate with all year levels, keeping students focused on the tasks at hand whilst allowing their creativity to blossom.
Outcomes:
Students learnt planning skills, manual skills, self-confidence in a performance situation and confidence to work cooperatively at their appropriate age level. There were many highlights of this project: the parade through the town; story and photos in the local monthly paper; display of photos in the hotel and the lighting of five pictures as finale at O.I.T.P.
‘We appreciate being able to participate in projects such as this. It brings a different perspective of the Arts to Hawker.’ Teacher
57 students were involved in this animation/film project.
