42:LTU

In a world where the dominant ideologies seem to have reached their used by dates, 42:LTU brought together an interdisciplinary team of young leaders to seek the answer to life, the universe and everything.

The question to you is ‘Why is Enough Never Enough?’. Does this ring any bells about yourself or about someone you know, or our world in general? This isn’t just about material possessions because we all know that’s not the answer to the meaning of life. The question relates to everything – introspection, consumption, categorization, information, happiness, knowledge, spiritual actualization and pretty much everything in our inner and outer lives.

These are the big questions 42:LTU asked of its 6 young researchers…even if the answer appears unattainable. This is the initial research phase of a larger project and we are inviting the wider community to access the journey and conclusions of local young creative leaders.

So do your mind a favour and taste the philosophical approach of 6 outstanding thinkers from different fields:

The Beginning

The team came together in March 2006 and through a facilitated process led by Gabrielle Kelly, Robyn Barratt and Andy Packer, established the fertile research question “Why is enough never enough?”.

Having established this question the team designed and undertook a four day research trip, meeting with a wide variety of professionals and creative leaders to try to find the answer to their question.

The Journey

Over four days the team had a range of meetings and experiences including;

  • Visiting a waste dump site and recycling centre with Erin Henson from Zero Waste SA.
  • Meeting with the Hon. John Hill, Minister for Health and Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts.
  • Visiting the Diplomatic Suite at the Hyatt Hotel, Adelaide.
  • Meeting with Geshe La and translator Rodrigo at Buddha House.
  • Meeting with Intuitive Medium, Maria Jones.
  • Meeting with Youth Worker, Andrew Drummond, at Street Link Youth Health.
  • Meeting with Psychiatrist Professor Robert Goldney at Adelaide Clinic.
  • Meeting with Nurses from the Oncology Ward of Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
  • Undertaking a Cultural Tour of Innes National Park led by Quentin Agius.
  • Meeting with Marjorie Fitzgerald, Patron of Carclew Youth Arts.
  • Meeting with Anglican Deacon, Jenny Wilson.

During this four day Journey the team lived together at Mylor YHA and continued their conversations at night whilst watching the DVD of Allain De Botton’s STATUS ANXIETY.

Public Forum

On Saturday June 3 2006 the 42:LTU team presented a public forum on the project as part of the Adelaide Festival Centre’s InSPACE Program.  This public was attended by 140 people who heard the team describe how the Journey has impacted on them individually and as a group and how the Journey has assisted them to find answers to their question “Why is enough never enough?”

The Future

The 42:LTU team will continue to meet and is committed to exploring a number of ways to create artistic outcomes that express their discoveries through this project.  The team has bonded strongly and are excited by the challenges of continuing to work collaboratively to inspire, challenge and support each other.
