I moved from Tasmania to sunny South Australia in 1990 and have been working in the arts for over 12 years with a focus on visual arts and festivals. Originally working as a bronze and glass artist, I moved into the areas of creating and managing unique exhibitions and events. These included major group shows of over 60 artists in Polyglot 40,420 and over 200 artists in 2001 An Art Odyssey part of the Centenary of Federation Celebrations. I have worked as a project and event manager for Adelaide Festival, Come Out and the Adelaide Fringe and was co-editor or Visart: a practical guide for emerging and visual artists. At Carclew I hope we can assist you with your journeys in the art world so keep in touch; email, call or visit and tell us what you're up too...

Since 2002, she has been developing open access workshops, training and employment projects, and exhibition programs for artists that explore cross-artform practices in digital media, live performance and public art.
She has served as a peer assessor for the Arts New Media Arts Board, Australia Council for the Arts, is a current panel member for the Arts SA Organisations Assessment Panel Industry Development Program, a Board member of the South Australian Youth Arts Board, a panel member of the Adelaide City Council's Public Art Round Table, a Grant Assessor for the Graham F Smith Peace Trust (an SA based autonomous arts funding body), and a member of the South Australian Youth Arts Board Artists In Schools Advisory Committee.
Belinda Powles
Life changed 10 years ago, when I was selected as an International Artist to work on the Gallery 37 project in Chicago USA. I was inspired by the great transformations made by employing young people as artists, not only through a paid wage but also in the acceptance and promotion of their work in the broader community. This is encapsulated in a comment made to me by one artist saying to me “ You taught me another way to see”.
With this as my mantra, I set about starting City Sites. Since the beginning, I have been inspired by the many people who have worked on or with City Sites. This includes the Artists, other Carclew staff and the Clients who commission the work and therefore, make the project a reality.
I originally trained as a Gold and Silversmith at RMIT, and went onto Curatorial Studies. I have worked in numerous jewellery workshops including being a founding member of the Metal Design Studio of the Jam Factory and Gray Street Workshop. With a passion for trying to make the arts accessible to all people I have also commenced a Diploma in Community Cultural Development.
